Are you considering living in a retirement village in the future or perhaps wondering if it's the right choice for a family member?
Perhaps you're already in a retirement village and you're wanting to understand more of the financial and legal elements?

Welcome to a free event on retirement villages with Catherine Thwaites from Community Law Canterbury. Held at Community House on June 25, the seminar will help you understand more fully the agreements, fees, and ongoing legislative changes that affect retirement village residents.

The seminar will provide key insights for current and future retirement village residents, including:

Signing up to a Retirement Village: An overview of the legal processes and types of leases or residential homes available.
Understanding Fees and Costs: A breakdown of ongoing operating costs and potential exit fees.
Occupation Right Agreements (ORAs): A look at ORAs, their complexities, and how they impact your rights and obligations.
Deferred Management Fees and Capital Gains: How deferred management fees work and the potential financial impact, including proposed changes to align capital gains with losses.
Fees and Exit Costs: Understanding the financial aspects of leaving, including deferred management fees and re-licensing.
Proposed Legislative Changes: A review of proposed changes to simplify legal documents and address power imbalances between residents and operators

With the retirement village sector evolving rapidly, it is essential that people are aware of their legal rights and the reforms on the horizon.

Join this session to gain the legal insights needed to navigate retirement village living with assurance and clarity.

After Catherine's presentation we will hear from a couple of current retirement village residents, about their experiences and the pros and cons of living in a retirement village.

There will then be an opportunity to ask your questions to Catherine and/or the residents.

Please note, places are limited so registrations are essential. Get your free tickets today.

Organised by Keep Learning Mid Canterbury and Community Law Canterbury.
