Event description
Do you feel the need for more creativity, self expression and sparkle in your life?
As the creators of Drop of a Hat, we know a thing or two about upcycling and pulling together the perfect party outfit We also know the transformative effect the perfect accessory can have on anyone.
Join us for a 2 hour workshop where we will share our tips and tricks to support you in crafting your very own unique party accessory. Whether it’s your favourite old hat which has seen better days, a funky shaped hat you found at the OpShop, or a discarded accessory from your wardrobe, we will help you give it a new lease on life.
Don’t have the perfect item for a project? Fret not, we will have a small selection of preloved hats at hand, or if you’d like to go bigger and brighter we can provide you with a pre-loved parasol ready to be adorned and re-loved for an optional extra $25 cash on the day.
What to expect:
A workshop of joyous crafting fun from 10am to 12pm at the Waiheke Sustainability centre (1A Mako Street), in a fun, supportive and creative environment for adults and youths over 12. We will help you each step of the way, and you will walk or shimmy away with your newly created one of a kind design, ready to dazzle the dance floor at your next event, party or festival!
On hand, we will have the tools needed for your crafting delight, including a selection of rescued materials to use as decorations. We will share our creative and technical advice, our party styling expertise, as well as some funky beats to help the creative process.
Preparing for your workshop:
We encourage you to rummage through your drawers to look for materials to repurpose. For example broken jewellery, discarded items from the toy box, unwanted Christmas or other holiday decorations, and random knick knacks or decorations make for fabulously creative upcycled hats. If none of these items spark your creative genius bring them along anyway to swap with other workshop participants.
We believe that the creative process of upcycling preloved fashion for the purpose of radical self-expression is one of the most joyous experiences, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
