Event description

Join Ballina Shire Council and Sue for a 3 hour hands-on workshop, introducing you to the mindful, meditative and resourceful practise of slow stitching.

You will explore Indian Kantha, Japanese Boro and traditional European embroidery stitches as a way to create original pieces to use to repair tears, cover stains or simply transform an old boring garment to something new and unique.

Bring any preloved fabrics and threads that you would like to use. Sue will also have a supply of natural dyed fabrics and threads to use if needed. Sue will supply needles, pins and a calico base for you to work onto.

You'll leave with the confidence to apply some of these techniques at home!

About your facilitator

Sue, the founder of Playing With Fibre, is a local Natural Dyer Textile and Fibre Artist.

She is passionate about sharing her love of texture, colour and traditional skills with others.

To ensure participants receive close care and guidance from the workshop tutor throughout the event, the number of participants is strictly limited to 12.

Contact justine.rowe@ballina.nsw.gov.au for any questions.

This project is proudly funded by the NSW Environment Protection Authority.
