This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

The UCMS is proud to collaborate with Rhea Dempsey from 'Birthing Wisdom' for an exclusive 1-day workshop in Canberra. This workshop is designed for all - Birth workers, student midwives, couples or singles, Rhea Dempsey brings you insights from her two books 'Birth with Confidence' and 'Beyond the Birth Plan'

In the morning you will learn about pain and its relationship to 'physiological birth'. Rhea will delve into a range of topics from the distinction between physiological, pathological and psychological pain, the cultural mindset of the epidural, crisis of confidence and the birthing woman's pain attitude, the couple 'relationship dynamic' and pain, midwives' pain paradigm, midwives' working with pain skills, and the magic dance of Oxytocin and Endorphins.

In the afternoon Rhea will delve into some of the deeper psychological themes from her newest book, covering factors contributing to birth trauma, disturbed birth physiology, structural issues and unnecessary interventions, expectations of care and a 'wounding' birth culture, and the impact of the Mother's story and couple relationship dynamics.

Afternoon tea provided, click "Get tickets" to secure your spot today. We understand the nature of birth work, so have a 1 day refund policy.

Please don't hesitate to contact the UCMS on ucmidwiferysociety@gmail.com if you require more information.
