Rhythm of the Earth Solstice Celebration
Event description
Rhythm Of The Earth will be a lively afternoon to celebrate the Solstice in the golden ambience of The Boathouse. We are celebrating the return of the light on the shortest day of the year.
We will also acknowledge and honour the start of Matariki with Nelson Tasman Climate Forum co-chair, Archdeacon Emeritus Harvey Ruru.
All ages are welcome to join in this afternoon of interactive activities for kids with prizes, dance and music performance.
*Doors open at 1.15pm for a 1.30pm start to the tap dance performance and workshop.
The Details:
Expect a powerful dance performance - Tap, Jazz, and more by Richmond's own 17-year-old Poppie Taylor, who will be competing this year in the World Tap Championship Competition In Prague. Poppie will also teach a fun Tap Workshop for young people.
The Nelson Sambassadors will put on a swinging Samba drumming and dance workshop for all ages. Let's turn up the energy together!
And finally, bringing it home, Miro and Mandeng Empire will perform traditional West African poly-rhythms that are irresistible.
This celebration is brought to you by Take the Jump, an action-oriented climate programme of the Nelson Tasman Climate Forum. Take The Jump will organise games with prizes, and fun interactive activities.
The Boathouse will provide a tasty small menu of food and the Bar will be open for coffee and drinks.
