CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

Dancehall

Dancehall was born in the inner city of Kingston, Jamaica in the late 70s. It manifests itself in so many ways and is passionately expressed through music, dance, language, fashion, and is deeply connected to the culture of the people.

There are a few "sub-styles" within dancehall for you to discover and find your happy place and this class is the ideal place for you to do just that!

Feminine Dancehall

This "sub-style" of dancehall is all about sass, attitude, spice, energy and sensuality!

In this class, students can expect to whine, jiggle and jook through fun popular party dances, impressive "dancehall queen" tricks, smooth moves and some of the more dynamic steps of today.

Dare to step into the queendom, love on your body and embrace your feminine energy unapologetically.

Disclaimer: While it is important to us to foster inclusivity, it is also important for us to share these dances with the utmost care and respect to the culture. In it's native spaces, this "sub-style" of Dancehall is generally practiced and performed by females.

Afro Fusion

Under the umbrella of Afro fusion, there is a range of styles from different countries on the African continent - each style has its own story, dances, music and birth place.

In this class, students will get the opportunity to dive deep into specific afro styles and their music, equipping students with the knowledge and confidence to grow their dance practice.

Amapiano

The sound taking over the world - Amapiano first emerged as a sub-genre of house music born around 2012 in South Africa. It has been immensely popularised by dance moves such as "pouncing cat" and "umlando" and several dance challenges across social media. The dance has its roots in its more established street dance styles such as Pantsula, Bhenga and Sbujwa. It is heavily characterised by footwork, upper body grooves and a whole lot of personality but as they say in South Africa "the aim is not to sweat".

In this class, students will learn the basics of Amapiano technique, grooves, cadence and popular moves.
