Rhythmic Rebirth: A Women's Frame Drum Circle

Join your frame drum sisterhood for an afternoon of ceremony and connection!

I felt the call to gather women around the frame drum during the powerful confluence of the full moon, Imbolc, and the start to the eclipse portal 2 weeks before the New moon Solar Eclipse on February 17th. A time to entrain to the heart beat of the earth and align intentions for the coming Spring.

Optional Sauna Add on- After the frame drum ceremony, as a separate optional offering for ceremony participants, Mackenzie Rae with Moonfire Sauna House will be offering a wood-fired sauna experience. A cold outdoor shower and cold plunge will also be available if that feels supportive for you. This will be a clothing optional space. Please bring two towels, plenty of water, and something to wear if you prefer to sweat clothed. Link to register for this will be sent to you once you register here.

Who: trans women, non-binary individuals, and anyone who identifies as a woman. No drumming experience required.

What: A 2 hr hybrid learning and ceremonial experience. Learn a few of the basic strokes as they are associated with the elements and simple song in a ceremonial container. Receive support in your sharing your journey of rhythmic rebirth-the path of reclaiming your role as rhythm keeper.

Where: ****Indoors in a heated ceremony space**** Private land 15-20 minutes outside of Bellingham, WA. Address upon registration.

When: February 1st 3-5pm Please arrive no later than 2:45 so we can settle in and start promptly at 3pm.

Why: To connect and commune with the elements, sisterhood, and the power of rhythm!

What is a Frame drum you ask?!

The frame drum is a beautiful harmonically rich instrument used in the goddess worshipping cultures for ceremony, entrainment and entering altered states of consciousness. The frame drum is currently going through a renaissance in the hands of women all of over the world who are claiming their birth right as rhythmic keepers. As women we are naturally sensitive to our own rhythms as well as the cyclical cosmic rhythms of the universe. The frame is a potent portal to connect us to our womb space as well a a container to hold channeled rhythm + song.

I highly recommend purchasing this book When the Women were Drummers by Layne Redmond if you feel called to further inspire your frame drum journey.

The frame drum I play is technically different than the shamanic drum many women have birthed with wood and hide. You are welcome to bring whatever sacred objects drum included as I will have a space in the center of the circle for them.

You may wonder "Do I need to bring a drum?" I will be providing as many frame drums as I can possibly source.

If you'd like to purchase one in advance please let me know and I will connect you with options. I will most likely have drums there to purchase as well.

Here's a video of me playing to get a feel for type of frame drum I play which is a techinicaly a "Tar" from the Middle East. I play with my hands in a way that fuses hand percussion techniques from around the world.

About me:

My name is Josephine "Jocéan" Dow and I'm a professional handpan/framedrum facilitator, teacher, recording artist and sound ceremonialist based in Bellingham, WA. As a lifelong musician + sound healer I bring a deep passion for both the technical and spiritual aspects of communing with rhythm, melody and harmony. I continue to study with my many beloved teachers to name a few- my uncle world renowned percussionist Jamey Haddad, frame drum specialist Marla Leigh, and sound alchemist/handpan expert Laura Inserra. I am passionate about supporting beings to connect to their musical creativity through empowering their rhythmic voice.

I perform as both my solo project Jocéan, with my partner in our handpan duo as ŌRŌ, and in collaboration with a variety of other musicians in world music groups.
