Richard Pavlidis (MELB)
Event description
Renowned for his “airtight arrangements and virtuosic improvisation" (Jazzfuel, UK), dynamic Melbourne saxophonist Richard Pavlidis brings his explosive original jazz to JMI Live this September, backed by the powerhouse Brisbane rhythm section of Eden Armstrong (piano), Elliott Parker (bass) and Chris Evans (drums).
A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, Richard has toured throughout Australia and internationally, performing at festivals including Splendour in the Grass, the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and Europafest. His music blends straight ahead hard bop with modern jazz harmony — a style that drew praise from the legendary Kenny G, who called Richard “a great player” with “amazing technique.”
His latest album “Iconography" was described by All About Jazz (USA) as “bright, powerful and engaging,” and follows the success of his debut “Without Within”, which is now part of the Australian Jazz Real Book and preserved in the Australian Jazz Museum. Tonight Richard will be introducing new material from an upcoming album set for release in late 2025.
