Event description

It's here again - our favourite film festival under the stars!

Celebrating its 33rd year, FLiCKERFEST is Australia's only Academy® Qualifying and BAFTA Recognised short film festival, and the country's largest Australian & international short film competition! It screens the best shorts selected from 3,400 entries, resulting in A-list short film programs recognised as amongst the best in the world.

This year the Australian Opal Centre at Lightning Ridge is screening TWO brilliant nights of the best recent short films, hand-picked from the 2024 FLiCKERFEST Festival in Bondi.

  1. Wednesday 24 April - Best of Australian Shorts, including 'Mary,' a heartfelt film based on a true story, written by Josh McElroy and filmed on his family's farm in Coonamble; and 'Yeah the Boys,' winner of the Panasonic Lumix Award for Best Australian Short Film - following six young Aussie men as they sink beers over an afternoon and well into the night.
  2. Wednesday 1 May - Short Laughs Comedy, a brilliant lineup of short comedies by filmmakers from Australia, New Zealand, France, Ireland, the US and UK.

Tickets for two nights are available at a discount price by purchasing a Season Ticket. Click Get Tickets > choose the 24 April screening and Season Ticket; we'll expect you on 1 May as well.

Can't make it both nights? Simply purchase a ticket for your preferred evening.

If you can afford to make a donation to support AOC cultural events, we'd be very grateful. Donations help us keep prices down so Australian Opal Centre programs are affordable for as many people as possible.
