Ridgetop Redwoods

Walk begins at Redwood Bowl interpretive exhibit.  Leave the garage through the pedestrian stairs at the south (away from the observatory) end. Cross the driveway to the EBRPD residence, pass the public phone booth, cross the gated small parking lot. Follow the signs (engraved vertically on a post) for “Roberts Ridge Trail." The exhibit is about 75 yards ahead. 

Hike is about 1.5 miles to Roberts Picnic area and return.  Learn how sea captains used the tallest trees to navigate away from the treacherous Blossom Rock and about the sleuthing that resulted in a State Historic Landmark designation.  Become acquainted with the history and evolution of the current redwood forest.  Regular; a modestly hilly walk. —John Nicoles

Meeting Location: Walk begins at the Blossom Rock Historic Landmark marker, near Madrone Picnic area, in Roberts Recreation Area. Parking available at Roberts Recreation area, $5 per vehicle. FREE Parking at Chabot Observatory/Science parking garage (10000 Skyline Blvd).
