About the Riding Free from DV fundraiser....

Riding Free from DV, is a not-for-profit event where funds are donated directly to grassroots community organisations dedicated to supporting women and children affected by domestic and family violence. The fundraiser was established in 2024 by Siobhan, in honour of her best friend, who tragically lost her life to domestic violence. Through this event, she hopes to start meaningful conversations about domestic violence while providing practical support to those who need it most.

The inspiration behind the event reflects the healing power of horses and the strong connection they create. As Siobhan and her friend shared a lifelong love of horse riding, the event honours her friend's memory through something she loved deeply. For many participants, the experience provides a sense of connection, empowerment, and healing, while helping to shine a light on the devastating impacts of domestic and family violence.

In 2024, the event raised almost $19,000 through sponsorships, merchandise sales, raffles, and a community trivia night. As a result, the funds enabled the Blue Mountains Women's Emergency Shelter to retrofit one of its family units to become pet-friendly, ensuring women and children fleeing violence do not have to make the heartbreaking decision to leave beloved pets behind. As well as the establishment of an emergency fund for women in need.

This year's Riding Free from DV event will be held on Sunday, 23 August 2026 in the beautiful Megalong Valley. The event is open to both riders and walkers, welcoming participants of all ages and abilities to come together, have fun, raise awareness, and support a worthy cause.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps local organisations continue providing refuge, emergency support and practical assistance to women and children experiencing domestic violence.
