Riesling-Rattlers Trail - OAS 3-5 Overnight Cycle Tour

Introduction to light weight overnight Cycle Touring

Join us for a relaxing 2 day ride along South Australia’s Iconic Rattler / Riesling Trail.  This will an unsupported 2 day tour where all your gear is loaded into panniers fixed to your bike or in a trailer connected to your bike.

Each day will consist of a 50km ride with light weight camping and cooking at the Clare Scout Hall on Saturday night.

PREREQUISITIES:

Suitable for Scouts, Venturers and Rovers working on Outdoor Adventure Skills Stage 4 Cycling or above and have previously completed a full day ride (30-40km).

Youth will need to have completed OAS Stage 4 Bushwalking that includes an overnight light weight hike.  Light weight camping, menu creation and cooking are assumed skills.

LOCATION:

Aug 30th

We will met 10am -12noon at the Modbury Community Hall to fit panniers, panniers racks and discuss packing.  Youth using their own bike and panniers will need to bring their bike to be scrutineered.

Sept 6-7th

We will meet 8am at the Modbury Community Hall and transport youth, bikes and gear from there.

The ride is along the Rattler / Riesling Trail; Clare Valley

FORMS:

Y4/A4 will be supplied to all participants, must be completed and returned prior to activity.

This activity will suit any rider looking to progress further into cycle touring and experience light weight cycle camping.

The Cycle team has a limited amount of panniers and trailers which can be used for the event.  See tickets for availability.

A few of “musts”!

· You must be able to ride a bike and have a reasonable level of fitness.  We will be covering up to 100km of trails including uphill over the 2 days

· Your bike must be in good working order for you to be permitted to ride. If you are concerned about your bike, a limited number of loan bikes are available from the Scouts SA Cycling Team. (2 x medium, 4x Large)

  • You must wear an approved helmet and appropriate clothing.  Gloves are recommended

· You should have adequate water either mounted on your bike and/or an appropriate hydration pack. Water is available at camp.

· We recommend you bring along a personal first aid kit and infield repair kit.

· You will need to create a balanced health menu and bring all your food including, snacks, breakfast X1 , Lunch X2 and Dinner X1 for the overnight ride in September.

REFUND policy:

Refunds will only an option if the cycling team cancel the activity due to extreme weather.
