Description

Professionals providing direct service to clients carry immense responsibility in the lives of the people they support.

Whether working as counsellors, therapists, case workers, outreach staff, healthcare providers, or social service professionals, they are regularly navigating situations involving trauma, crisis, vulnerability, conflict, and complex human needs. At the same time, they are often balancing high caseloads, emotional exhaustion, systemic barriers, limited resources, and increasing expectations.

In these environments, the use of power matters deeply.

Right Use of Power™ is a dynamic, inspiring, and relational approach to the ethical use of power to promote well-being, the common good, and right relationship. We share a language and framework for understanding and navigating power with strength AND heart.

This approach is a conscious ethics deep dive that recognizes the complexity of power dynamics in relationships.

Right Use of Power™ programs focus on increasing skillfulness, engagement, and awareness in the use of power.

It is ethics from the inside out.

This in-person training in Calgary is brought to you in collaboration with the Nonprofit Chamber, the Right Use of Power Institute, All Thrive, and the team at The Ally Co.

Join us for a full-day, engaging and hands-on learning experience to deepen your understanding of power and learn how to use power with strength and heart.

Let’s talk about power! I’m Dr. Amanda Aguilera, and I support individuals and organizations in navigating the dynamics of power that shape our lives, our work, and our relationships. As the Executive Director of the Right Use of Power Institute, I advocate for a world where we participate in power in ways that bring us closer to right relationship. I believe we often lose connection to ourselves and others when striving for perfection—when we are trying to fit into systems instead of cultivating belonging within ourselves. Whether I’m speaking on a stage, working 1:1 as a power-conscious guide, leading the Right Use of Power Institute, or sharing the framework in my new book, Shaping Power for Good: Wayfinding to Right Relationship, my mission is to move us toward more authentic connection.

  • Jeff Couillard

    Jeff Couillard

I help organizations build leaderful teams - teams where power is used wisely, trust is practiced daily, and people are equipped to navigate the real tensions of modern work. My work sits at the intersection of leadership development, team facilitation, and organizational culture. I’ve had the privilege of supporting leaders at TC Energy, the City of Calgary and the Calgary Fire Department, Electronic Arts, Bayer, Hull Services, and other mission-driven organizations across sectors. I design and deliver learning experiences that are practical, participatory, and immediately operational - whether through executive workshops, keynote speaking, immersive team sessions, or long-term leadership development programs. My approach is grounded in the Right Use of Power, deep coaching practice, and over a decade of work in addiction and mental health, where clarity, compassion, and accountability are non-negotiable.

  • Leah Fink

My passion is supporting employees' mental health in the workplace. With All Thrive, I develop leadership and culture transformations that focus on advancing communication skills, deepening team connection and engagement, and shifting inefficient systems. Mental health isn't just an individual issue. Workplace culture and leadership have a huge impact, and I love supporting leaders to ensure that the impact they are having is a positive one!

This workshop is designed for professionals who work directly with people and hold influence, authority, or responsibility in their roles.

    • Human resource professionals

    • Anyone working in a helping, service, or leadership role

  • What is the Right Use of Power?

The Right Use of Power™ is a practical framework that helps professionals understand and use power ethically, responsibly, and effectively. It explores the dynamics of power in professional relationships and provides tools for building trust, maintaining healthy boundaries, and reducing the risk of harm.

The approach recognizes that power itself is not the problem, it is how we use it that matters.

  • Is this workshop only for leaders or managers?

No. While leaders often find the training valuable, the workshop is relevant for anyone whose role involves influence, responsibility, decision-making, support, care, education, or service.

Power exists in every professional relationship, regardless of formal title.

In fact, this day is specifically oriented toward those in direct-service roles (leaders are welcome to attend this session, or the session on September 17th).

  • Do I need previous experience with the Right Use of Power?

No prior knowledge is required. This workshop serves as an introduction to the framework and is designed for both newcomers and those looking to deepen their understanding of power dynamics in professional settings.

  • How is this training different from ethics or boundaries training?

Many ethics and boundary trainings focus on rules, policies, and compliance. Right Use of Power goes deeper into the human dynamics that exist within professional relationships.

Participants leave with practical tools for understanding how power operates, how trust is built or damaged, and how to use their influence in ways that strengthen relationships and reduce the risk of harm.

  • What if I'm uncomfortable with 'power'?

You're not alone. Many people associate power with control, hierarchy, or misuse.

One of the goals of this workshop is to create a more nuanced and constructive understanding of power. Participants often leave with a new appreciation for power as a tool for service, leadership, protection, and positive change.

  • What if I have additional questions?

We'd be happy to help. Contact us, and we'll gladly answer any questions about the workshop, registration process, or whether the training is a good fit for your role.
