Ripples of Memory: Sensory and collective art-making

Reclaiming anti-colonial ways of healing through story, memory, and collective artmaking.

Join Akala Newman for a special two-hour introduction to Ripples of Memory: a sensory workshop exploring ancestral memory, place, and cultural identity. Through watercolour, storytelling, song, and deep listening, participants will be invited to slow down, reflect, and connect through multi-sensory artmaking.

Together, we will share, and record stories and sounds, contributing to a collective soundscape woven together by Akala.

Akala Newman is a Wiradjuri/Gadigal artist, producer, educator, and songwriter whose genre-bending practice weaves electronic sound, language, lineage, and cultural storytelling. Her work moves between the intimate and the expansive, creating spaces for reflection, sovereignty, and collective care.

All art materials and light refreshments will be provided.

Location & Getting There

Twenty10 is located in the heart of Newtown.

• Train: The closest train station is Newtown on the T2, T3, T4, T8 and T1 lines

• Bus: 370, 422, 423, 426, 428. Good stops are along King Street, Parramatta Road, or near Church Street/Newtown. From most bus stops it is only a short 2-5 minute walk.

• Car: Parking around Newtown is limited and can become difficult on weekend, and is metred. the closest streets are Federation Road, Lennox Street, Church Street

• Bike: There are some bike pahts on the way with bike racks on Lennox Street

Venue information

• The Rainbow Room is located on Level 1. There is lift access and accessible toilets on this level. There is also an accessible bathroom on the lower level which can be accessed with a key

• Pride Hall is equipped with a hearing loop.

• There are multiple all gender and accessible bathrooms

• There is a small kitchenette where a microwave, hor and cold water is available and some basic amenities

• Food provided will be a mix of vegan, gluten free, and avoiding common allergens such as nuts

• This is a space that centres LGBTQIA+, Black Indigenous and People of Colour. Allies and loved ones are welcome, we ask that you honor the experiences, stories, joy and wellness of those of us who don't get to take up as much space
