Rising Tides Exhibition Albany - Imagining Coastal Resilience
Event description
How can art, science, and design come together to envision a resilient future coastline? Come and explore imaginative designs by landscape architecture staff and students from the UWA School of Design, exhibited alongside captivating community artworks that celebrate the coast of the Middleton Region - from BInalup | Ellen Cove to Emu Point, and the surrounding hinterland. The exhibition will be open for viewing daily between Thursday 24 July between 10am and 4pm, at the Museum of the Great Southern, Pop-Up Galleries (Residency Road, Albany | Kinjarling).
This exhibition is an output of the UWA Oceans Institute’s innovative ‘Better Oceans Program’ research project to improve coastal resilience through creative methods of community engagement. As part of the project, community members from the Albany region were invited to create collages, textile artworks, poems and photographs that tell their stories about the Middleton Bay region. You will see their creative works and the story behind the art in this novel exhibition.
Landscape architecture students and staff from the UWA School of Design created future visions for the region, responding to community values and artworks. You will view designs for these well-loved places along a changing coastline.
The exhibition will be open to the public for viewing between Thursday 24 July to Sunday 27 July 2025, from 10am-4pm daily. Entry is free. This event is supported by the City of Albany, and forms part of the Albany Maritime Festival.
This research project is funded by the UWA Oceans Institute's Better Oceans Program. The project is an endorsed UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development Action. The 'Rising Tides Studio' is an initiative of the UWA School of Design.
