Rita Sahai is an award-winning Hindustani classical vocalist, composer, and educator whose performances transport audiences into the heart of India’s rich musical traditions. Born in Allahabad and trained from childhood in the romantic Benares Gharana, Rita went on to study with the legendary sarod maestro Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, who honored her with the title Gayan Alankar—“Jewel of Music.”

Renowned for her captivating voice and deeply emotive style, Rita has performed and toured internationally, from intimate concert halls to large festivals, collaborating with artists as diverse as Grammy-winner Béla Fleck and Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet. Her artistry bridges classical depth with contemporary creativity, earning her critical acclaim and a devoted following.

As founder and director of the Vasundhara Choir, Rita composes innovative choral works that blend Hindustani classical traditions with global influences. Her album Jalaranjani – The Moods of Water won a Bronze Medal at the Global Music Awards. She also directs the Hindustani Vocal Ensemble at UC Davis, inspiring the next generation of musicians.

With her luminous presence and musical mastery, Rita Sahai continues to enchant audiences worldwide—inviting listeners on a soul-stirring journey through the beauty, power, and grace of Indian classical music.
