Event description

In these times of disconnect and division, there is a yearning to come together--

To meet the living mystery of our collective unfolding,

And to move in the poetry of belonging.

What groups do we long to belong to? When do we claim or shame our belonging?
How do we dance with the known, unknown, and secreted stories of our peoples?
What does being in a group call forward in us, whether welcome or not?

How can our movement practice help facilitate affiliation and expand the dances of our collective belonging?

Together we will weave a weekend of individual, dyad, and ensemble exploring and remembering, supported by the 5Rhythms and Open Floor movement practices.

Majero Bouman (OpenFloor) & Layah Singer-Wilson (5Rhythms) met on the dancefloor in 2014 and have been lit up by each other ever since. Majero is a poet, a cultural theorist, a mother, an artist, and a life-long dancer. Her work as an Open Floor teacher is in service to cultural transformation, community responsibility, and self-awareness. Layah is a healing artist, a dancer, mother, and musician.  Her 5Rhythms facilitation is infused with expressive enthusiasm, a fascination with the weave of ritual and improvisational art, and a reverent love of creative practice as a transformational and political act. Majero and Layah are certified teachers of their respective movement schools, and both are members of the International Conscious Movement Teachers Association.
