River of Art Festival Literary Program

Join the South Coast Writers Centre at two literary events on Saturday 5th October as part of Eurobodalla's River of Art Festival!

The Object of Poetry
Saturday 5 October
2:00pm - 3:30pm
The Monarch Hotel, Moruya

In this workshop participants will explore modern free verse and prose poetry. Poet Elanna Herbert will guide participants through a series of exercises and invite them to write a poem in response to an object brought from home. This could be a photograph, a small sculpture, or any object that holds personal value.

Elanna Herbert lives and writes from Yuin Country on the south coast of New South Wales. Her work has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. In 2020, she won the June Shenfield National Poetry Award and was shortlisted for the Australian Catholic University (ACU) Prize for Poetry (2021). Her debut collection of poetry Sifting Fire, Writing Coast was published by Walleah Press in 2023 and was shortlisted for the ACT Literary Awards / Marion Awards.

Literary Salon
Saturday 5 October

The Monarch Hotel, Moruya

Join the South Coast Writers Centre as they present a literary salon with readings of contemporary poetry and short story. Hear award-winning local poets Elanna Herbert and Sandra Renew read from their poetry collections, and very short stories from the 2024 SCWC + River of Art Festival Flash Fiction competition, read by SCWC Director Sarah Nicholson and shortlisted authors Eartha Davis and Jennifer Harrison.

Sandra Renew has published internationally and nationally. Described as a “brave and bold” writer, her poetry has been awarded two Canberra Critics Circle Awards and an won the ACT Writers Notable Awards for Poetry. Sandra Renew’s latest collection is She goes to Town. She writes on Ngunnawal and Ngambri land (Canberra) and Yuin land (Cobargo).
