The business of philanthropy – no shortcuts
Craig Hollywood, an Australian of the Year Award winner, stands as a beacon of hope in the Australian social impact landscape. His ability to spark change through conversation holds national and global significance.
Not only is he a trailblazing motivational speaker and innovative entrepreneur, his dedication to community service is genuinely inspiring. Craig is the visionary behind Short Back and Sidewalks, a social impact movement offering free haircuts and heartfelt conversations to Australia's most vulnerable. But Craig says that one of the keys to the organisation’s success, is that it’s also a highly sophisticated and eminently led, sustainable ‘business’.
Originating as a wholly volunteer run venture in a Perth car park in 2015, Short Back & Sidewalks has since won the support of a former Prime Minister, formed a Board consisting of some of Australia’s leading business, academic, former government and community luminaries, secured over $700,000 in Federal and State Government funding and now spans the continent, erasing the stigma associated with those in need.
Craig's personal motivation, fueled by the loss of a family member to homelessness, fuels a new wave of generosity, a generosity he embodies by remaining an unpaid volunteer in his leadership capacity of what is now a well-funded, high-impact business … doing good.
Craig champions inclusivity, emphasizing the power of positive connections to effect change. His story is a testament to the difference one person can make, compelling us all to reimagine the impact we leave on this world.
