Event description

Join RMBWA for an exciting evening of networking and information sharing, with Stephen Inouye; Veritas Group MD on cyber security management strategies for business.

True or False: Data breaches should be as rare as aircraft crashes and when a breach happens the impact should be as small as possible to everyone?

In its 2023 edition of the Cybersecurity Readiness Index, US network and cybersecurity giant Cisco Systems found that globally, only 15 per cent of organisations had a level of cybersecurity preparedness mature enough “to handle the security risks of our hybrid world”. In Australia, this figure is only 11 per cent.

Stephen Inouye, Managing Director of Veritas Group, is not a cyber security expert! So why then is he speaking about cyber security?

For nearly 20 years, Stephen’s Perth-based company has served as a national leader in the development of software systems that support the issuance of background checks for hundreds of thousands of workers across a range of critical infrastructure industries including aviation, offshore, maritime, rail, and logistics. To support these services, Veritas often serves as an “information bridge” between workers, their employers and federal agencies including the Department of Home Affairs, Attorney General’s Department, the Australian Federal Police, the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, and the New Zealand Ministry of Justice to name just a few.

Veritas is legally bound and operates under federal regulations to manage the handling, transfer, and storage of personal data associated with its business operations. Governance, Risk Management and Compliance (GRC) is more aptly the term Stephen uses to cover his organisation's approach to data privacy and cyber security. In this discussion, Stephen will share a few GRC strategies that any company can use to mitigate business risk (and to help business owners sleep better at night).
