WITH SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER:
Rob Barton - Solo ocean-rowing adventurer & youth mental health advocate
After many years in senior management roles working for an international bank in Jersey and Singapore, Rob Barton relocated to Australia and started his own mortgage planning business.
But seeking a little more adventure than that afforded by running his own business, Rob joined his local surf club and while paddling his surf-ski on the Indian Ocean, imagined what it would be like to just keep going.
So, he did - in a world first; rowing non-stop and unassisted from Australia to Africa in support of youth mental health – for a very special reason and person. With zero ocean rowing experience, Rob had to learn how from the internet and just a few days out on his epic quest, many miles from Australia and facing severe seasickness in a leaky boat, he had to make the heartbreaking decision to turn back and head for Exmouth and safety! Was it all over? Was Rob beaten?
No … just two hours later he turned around again and headed on, incredibly spending a total of 86 days alone at sea before eventually reaching the shores of Africa and victory, over himself and the elements!
Find out who and what inspired Rob to keep going, how he overcame the many personal and environmental challenges he faced on his journey, and how those same learnings can assist you and those you love on your own journeys.
