RMIT RedActs Presents: Dogfight
Description
Synopsis
It’s November 21, 1963. On the eve of their deployment to Vietnam, three young Marines plan one final night of reckless fun with a cruel bet: the Marine who can bring the ugliest date to the party wins a bounty. Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward but kind-hearted waitress whose optimism and love of music make him regret involving her in the scheme. When Rose eventually learns the truth about the dogfight, her quiet strength and dignity challenge Eddie’s callousness, leading him to discover compassion through their unexpected connection.
Content Warnings
Dogfight is a work of historical fiction and deals with serious and important subjects relevant to real life. Whilst we are of the philosophy that art is an important medium to represent and discuss these themes, we also acknowledge their potential to be distressing. Please be aware of these themes before purchasing a ticket. You may step out of the theatre at any point during the performance.
This show contains portrayals of sexism, misogyny, body shaming, silent racism, sexual violence and assault, physical assault, war, death and PTSD. The second act includes a scene depicting violence against women and a war sequence featuring loud sound effects and strobing lights.
