Who is Respect. Now. Always.?

Respect. Now. Always. (RNA) is the University’s commitment to building a campus community that is free from gender‑based violence. It aligns UC with the national Respect. Now. Always. initiative adopted by universities across Australia and represents a whole‑of‑organisation effort to foster a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all students and staff.

What does Respect. Now. Always Do?

RNA works across UC to prevent gender‑based violence among both students and staff through education and cultural change. It provides educational programs such as Respect Matters, which teaches respectful relationships, consent, communication, and how to support those experiencing Gender-based Violence. RNA also helps connect students with support services including wellbeing services, counselling, and practical safety tools such as SafeUC. RNA engages students through activities that raise awareness of the drivers of violence and challenge harmful norms, such as rigid gender stereotypes and the acceptance of violence within our community.

Why is their work important?

RNA’s work is vital because Gender‑based Violence causes significant harm, including physical, emotional, psychological, social, cultural, and financial impacts. Evidence shows that violence disproportionately affects women and LGBTQISB+ people, highlighting the need for targeted prevention and support. By fostering respect, safety, inclusion, and informed action, UC ensures that everyone on campus can learn, work, and participate in an environment where they feel safe, valued, and supported.
