Robyn Martin & Karl S Williams with Sally Wiggins at Soundcity
Event description
Dual Album Launch Tour
Karl S Williams releases 'Rainbows in the Gasoline'.
Stylistically, the album encompasses folky finger picking in the vein of Nick Drake, a touch of Townes Van Zandt or Michael Hurley, through to swerving piano ballads that call to mind early Tom Waits and Nina Simone.
Recorded directly to two-track tape, the sound is timeless, slightly hazy and occasionally wrinkled. A sensitive and authentic document of these performances which are delivered with just an acoustic guitar, an upright piano and a voice.
Touring with drummer Sally Wiggins, the duo deliver a raw and captivating performance exploring the confounding duality of life, at once beautiful and terrible.
Robyn Martin releases 'Milk & Honey'
With ARIA chart hitting songs and national & international songwriting recognition in her back pocket from her releases with trio The New Graces, Robyn releases her debut solo album. With a sound that is distinctly Australian, her music traverses a wide terrain from deep pocket soul, mixed with heart warming, thought provoking folk sensibilities, to the occasional banjo driven hoedown singalong and a sprinkle of grungy angst rock.
Debut album, produced by David Ross Macdonald (The Waifs), Milk & Honey tells stories of love, searching, and grappling with Australia's history, landscape & future.
Martin performs with drummer Sally Wiggins and bass player / brave husband Sam Martin.
