'Rodney Currie Stars in a Movie' - Artist talk and JAWS screening
Description
>Join us at Next Wave for an evening of moving image, conversation and cinema, celebrating Nicholas Currie’s Rodney Currie Stars in a Movie – showing at Next Wave from 11 – 21 November.
At 6.30pm, Nicholas Currie and his father, Rodney Currie, come together for an artist talk exploring the stories, family histories and cinematic influences behind Nicholas’s work.
Then, at 7pm, settle in for a special screening of Jaws (1975), accompanied by commentary from Rodney. A former cinema projectionist when the film was released, Rodney watched Jaws hundreds of times from the projection booth. Drawing on this extraordinary history, he brings a unique perspective to this iconic film, sharing insights shaped by a lifetime spent behind the screen.
From family mythology to cult cinema, join us for an evening exploring the stories we inherit, the films we remember and the people who bring them to life.
Rodney Currie Stars in a Movie is commissioned by Next Wave as the inaugural project in Soft Infrastructures, a commissioning series supporting socially engaged and community-led artistic practice.
