Rolling with the Punches
Fighting is the perfect metaphor for hard times. Human beings have a lifelong relationship with fighting. It is in our DNA. We recognise the learnings, and draw wisdom from age-old sayings such as ‘just roll with the punches’, ‘pick yourself up off the mats’, and ‘climb over the ropes’. We encourage one another to turn around and see ‘who’s in their corner’, and reassure friends that they are ‘just down for the count’. A reminder that hard times are finite and that we always have the opportunity to get back to our feet.
Matt Williams is a former professional fighter, now working as a coach and trainer at Bones MMA in Torquay. He makes the case that professional fighting taught him to be kind to himself and others, vulnerable when he needs support, and a calm voice in the corner of those that find themselves up against the ropes.
Come along for an evening at Flowstate Gin to hear from Matt and some of his fighters on how fighting has changed their lives, and learn a few of the tools that help them navigate the journey into the squared circle.
