Romance to Ruin:
A program of tenderness and tragedy spanning 200 years, culminating in Prokofiev’s epic f minor sonata for violin and piano, presented by the brilliant duo, Patrick Galvin and Jennifer Hou. Works by Amy Beach, Jean Sibelius, Frédéric Chopin, Pablo Sarasate, Arvo Pärt, and the food-inspired virtuoso caprice, Tangy, by contemporary composer Korine Fujiwara.
About the artists:
Patrick Galvin is a San Francisco-based violinist who performs regularly across the United States and abroad. His 2023 performances have included selections from his 2021 album of solo violin repertoire, entitled Violin Alone. Other recent projects include Dear Camilla, a narrative duo program that commemorates the legendary violinist Camilla Wicks, Patrick’s former teacher, on whose instrument he now performs. Patrick also enjoys teaching, both at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Coleman Violin Studio in Seattle, WA.
Jennifer Hou is a solo and collaborative pianist based in Sydney and Canberra. She has performed at the Sydney Opera House, Town Hall, across the US and in Europe. Jennifer is an avid performer of contemporary works, as well as music from the French Impressionist and Russian Romantic periods. Jennifer received her Masters in Piano Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Corey McVicar and Jon Nakamatsu. Jennifer enjoys teaching, both privately and as a visiting music teacher at Canberra Grammar School.
