This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Lisa from Natures Fold will lead a walk through the local ngāhere and speak about how we can look after our environment, while we are enjoying our natural spaces. Learn about native plants and what they have been used for, past and present. Lisa will then demonstrate the making of Eco Enzymes as shown to her by the Senguan Zheng whānau, from Malaysia.

In traditional Māori form this event will begin and end with a karakia. Light refreshments will be provided.

Registration is essential for this free kōrero and demonstration.

A message from Lisa:

The physical and mental wellbeing of all people should not come at a cost! When you see our environment suffering, the people are too. There is so much to consider in the realm of Rongoa Maori and it comes with respect and responsibility. It is not just about one thing. It is spiritual and physical. It is the mindfulness of others. It is many things.

Nature has so much to give, it’s more than what a plant can do for you. I know my place in Te Ao Maori is with the rakau/plants. It is how a plant works, and why it works. Each individual is different and requires different remedies than others, and some might not require a plant at all.

My studies involve the element, the essence, the whakapapa, the Atua/God of each rakau and I love connecting. I am taught by Tohunga (specialists raised by specialists of their time), I am so appreciative of what I learn, and am happy to touch on the identification of the plants, historic information, correct tikanga/protocols around harvesting, open korero/conversations are welcome, it will always be a safe space to be asking questions. We are all learning; we will always be learning. It is to be embraced.

Ko au te whenua, Te whenua ko au. Look after our earth and our earth will look after us.
