    Join We BE Walkin’ and Christin Riddick for Roots and Rhetoric: A farm-to-table experience that immerses you in the sights, sounds, and flavors of the land. This event brings together local makers, businesses, and organizations committed to connecting the community with nature. Engage all your senses through engaging with the land,  taste locally sourced bites/drinks , and enjoy being outdoors with the We Be Walking community.

    What’s Happening:

    🍃 Garden Tour
    Start your evening with a guided tour of our lush garden. Learn about the organic growing methods used to produce the fresh, vibrant ingredients featured in the evenings mocktails.

    🍽️ Locally Sourced Bites

    Indulge in a series of exquisite small-plate samplings, each crafted from locally sourced ingredients. These bite-sized creations are designed to highlight the best of the season and showcase the diverse flavors that our region has to offer..

    🎙️ Live Panel Discussion
    Engage in a lively and informative discussion with local farmers, makers and sustainability practitioners. Our panel will cover topics such as:

    • Supporting local farmers and producers
    • Sustainability practices you can implement at home
    • Creative ideas for meal preparation and exploring new foods

    Seated conversation: Learn from our local farmers, food + justice advocates and what it means to engage with the land with all five senses. Seated conversation includes 2 drink tickets and a light bites. Additional drink tickets can be purchased for $5 each.

    Revel Productions is a minority owned, woman led curator of Non-alcoholic mixers and garnishments. Educated Bartenders that not only elevating your palette, but also elevate your mind! We specialize in creating well balanced flavors for everyone to enjoy. Revel Productions is devoted to the idea of "keeping the party flowing". We provide all professional services in the Mobile Bartending industry. We are here to service private events of small or large capacity.

    Educator and Moderator: Christin Riddick

    Christin is  a garden to table educator who teaches the African Diaspora how to grow food in small spaces and take a nature based approach to health and wellness.

    When he’s not cultivating edible landscapes or facilitating community culinary experiences, he’s hosting The Afro Beets Podcast. A food and culture show where food and the land are used as tools to explore the African diaspora.

    Christin earned my master gardener certification from UDC in 2019 and have over 5 years of growing experience in various gardens across the DMV including the Washington Youth Garden located in the National Arboretum. 

    He believes that everyone should have access to good food and nature regardless of their zip code.

    Farmer Tolu, OlaLekan Farm

    Tolu Igun (she/they) was first introduced to the urban agriculture movement in 2013 in Detroit where they were born. But it wasn’t until 2020 that Tolu committed to a career in farming wholeheartedly. Now they operate OlaLekan Farm, a destination in the community for wellness, wholesome connection, and education in Upper Marlboro, MD.

    Ashley Walker

    Mrs. Ashley Walker is an educator for the state of Maryland. A true pillar in her community she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, helping other entrepreneurs develop ideas for their business, bridging gaps and networking. While in college Ashley worked for numerous companies in the hospitality industry. This where shr found my love service and creating drinks. In 2012 she pitched an idea to earn some extra cash with her good girlfriends. This would be the initial pathway of a journey of lessons about resilience, friendship, loyalty and understanding. Today in 2024 Ashley has re-developed, rebranded, refreshed and renewed her love for service and creating experiences with her drinks.

    We BE Walkin’

    We BE Walkin’, a Black-led, queer women led initiative dedicated to introducing nature’s healing powers to the BIPOC community. With a passion for wellness and a commitment to diversity in outdoor spaces, We BE Walkin’ organizes community walks and nature experiences that foster community, connection and health. We BE Walkin’ to break down barriers and create a welcoming space for BIPOC individuals to explore nature, improve mental and physical health, and build community bonds.

    Common Good City Farm is an outdoor space, severe weather may impact our ability to host the event. 

    Our policy has been to reschedule events when the following weather events are forecast with a high likelihood (If it is a drizzle/ light rain, we generally do not reschedule the event and continue to host the event.)
