Sat, 31 Oct, 1:30pm - 5:30pm GMT

A slow, somatic, solo rope workshop for presence, play and ritual.

This Samhain (31 October), you're invited to explore rope a little differently.

Rope as Ritual is a slow, embodied workshop that treats rope as a practice of presence, sensation and personal meaning, with plenty of room for curiosity, play and simply enjoying the rope.

Samhain is traditionally a time of thresholds and transition, and we'll gently honour it. Engage with that as much or as little as feels right. Bring an intention, or just come for an afternoon of tying. Halloween enthusiast, Samhain observer or none of the above, you're equally welcome.

The workshop

We move slowly and use rope as a way of listening to sensation, breath, weight and the body's natural rhythms. We'll also explore the ritual side of rope. A knot might hold an intention. A wrap might anchor your attention. Untying might show you what changes when the rope is released. Or rope can just be rope.

Demonstrations offer gentle starting points, and then there's plenty of time for your own exploration. This is a solo workshop: there's no partnered tying, no expectation to share or perform, and no pushing past your edges. Expect warmth, experimentation and moments of lightness alongside the slower ritual elements.

What to expect

  • a calm arrival and grounding

  • clear consent and boundary-setting

  • guided solo rope exploration

  • simple ritual and seasonal invitations

  • time to play at your own pace

  • a gentle unwinding and close

Who it's for

Beginners, returning tyers and experienced rope folk alike. It's for you whether you're drawn to ritual or would just like a lovely afternoon of rope. No prior experience needed. All bodies welcome.

Our approach

The pace is slow, and your choice always comes first. Consent is woven through everything. The space is non-sexual and trauma-aware. There's no right way to feel and no need to go "deep", and you can pause, adapt or opt out at any time.

Come in costume, a cosy jumper, or exactly as you are.

Pricing

Tickets are on a sliding scale, with a limited number of supported places alongside standard and pay-it-forward options. If a higher tier feels possible for you, it helps keep the space accessible for others. Choose what feels sustainable for you, with no pressure and no need to explain your choice.

FAQs

  • Is this workshop sexual or erotic?

No. This is an intentionally non-sexual workshop. Rope is explored as a grounding, somatic, and symbolic practice, not as a sexual or performative activity.

  • Do I need prior rope experience?

No prior rope experience is required. This workshop is suitable for beginners, as well as those with rope experience who wish to return to the basics with greater presence and intention.

  • Will I be tying with other people?

No. This is a solo-focused workshop. Partnered tying is not a focus, and there is no expectation to interact physically with others.

  • What should I bring?

Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move and sit easily.
You’re encouraged to bring a water bottle and, if you have one, a yoga mat and blanket.
If you have your own rope, you’re welcome to bring it. Some spare rope will also be available.

  • What if I feel overwhelmed or need a break?

You are always welcome to pause, adapt, or opt out of any part of the workshop. Stepping away, resting, or simply observing is fully respected and supported.

  • What kind of rope will be used?

We’ll be working with simple, beginner-friendly rope practices focused on safety, sensation, and awareness.
No suspension or advanced techniques are taught.
Both natural fibre and synthetic ropes will be available.

  • Do I have to share or speak in the group?

No. Sharing is always optional. Silence, reflection, and internal experience are equally welcome.

  • Is there parking?

Yes. The venue is very close to paid parking, with only a short walk from the car park to the space.

  • Will there be food?

Some light snacks and drinks will be available. Please let me know in advance if you have any allergies.
