Rope Jam

Event description

We are so excited to welcome you to a rope jam in a space that is perfect for floor rope, partials and suspensions!

A rope jam is a space to hang out with rope people, practice our rope skills and play in a community setting. Rope is a beautiful way to connect with our own bodies, our friends and partners.

It takes time to develop rope knowledge and skills, and it’s safer when we can look out for each other, so a rope jam is a chance to hang out, learn and have fun. If you are curious about rope and would like to meet ropey people, ask questions, and see some rope scenes, come along!

You don’t need to have your own rope to join in. We will have some you can borrow for practicing the basics.

If you would rather be tied, it’s great to come along and learn about rope safety, scene navigation, what to look for in a rigger, etc so that your rope experiences are positive.

We are hosting an optional Yoga for Shibari workshop from 5-6pm. Please see details here. Double ticket deals for those interested in both the yoga session and Rope Jam are available at checkout.

Costs and Times

Entry is $10 per person and open to all rope enthusiasts. Doors open at 6pm and we’ll finish at 10pm. The entry fee is to cover hall hire and insurance for the evening.

There is an optional workshop available for $10.

What to wear

Whatever you feel comfortable doing rope in, but we generally wear clothes you’d wear to a yoga or exercise class.

Optional rope class

From 6.30pm, BlueBird will be teaching a mini-workshop on Self Tying. The class will cater to the skill level of participants. For those who have completed Self Tying Part 1, as part of the Bound by Shibari workshop series, you may be able to progress to a hip harness that can be used for supervised suspension. The class is an additional $10 per person.

The Space

Located at the Ashtanga Yoga Studio in Newcastle West, the room features wide, open spaces for floor rope and an open ceiling full of steel beams for partial or full suspension. The space is on the top floor so we can be ourselves without vanillas wandering by.

What to bring

Yourself! Rope if you have some. If you’re joining the class, you’ll need 3-4 ropes and your safety shears or rope cutting tool.

If you have your own mats, please bring them along. We will bring some mats, and there will also be yoga mats.

If you have the appropriate skills and experience and plan to do a partial or suspension, please bring your own climbing straps, carabiners, rings etc.

Can’t wait to see you all there!
