Event description

Join Andrew Thompson from the Rare Fruit Society of SA and Andrew's Urban Farm for a pruning masterclass or book an individual workshop to suit your needs!

Winter pruning is an important skill that has a huge impact on the health of your plants and trees as well as their flowering and fruiting capacity for seasons to come!

In these two workshops, you'll learn from Andrew Thompson the principles of pruning and then get the chance to test your own skills. There's nothing better than getting hands-on to really learn a task, so you'll have the opportunity to do that in both workshops.

Roses & Grape Vine Pruning Workshop 10:30am -12pm

In this workshop, Andrew will explain the principles behind winter pruning, key tools for your garden shed and methods to avoid infecting your plants while pruning.

He'll discuss the techniques ways to prune roses, followed by a hands-on demonstration using roses at the Urban Farm. Bring your own garden gloves and get involved under the watchful eye of Andrew.

We'll then move to the grape vines and learn the principles for correctly sterilising your tools before pruning grape vines. Andrew will discuss how to maximise the fruiting capacity of your grape vines while ensuring your vine stays healthy year after year.

Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop 1pm - 2:30 pm

In this workshop, Andrew will explain the principles behind pruning fruit trees, in particular deciduous fruit trees. Great care must be taken to ensure a shape that promotes healthy, but properly directed growth.

He'll discuss the different methods to prune fruit trees, followed by a hands-on demonstration using trees at the Urban Farm. Bring your own garden gloves and get involved under the watchful eye of Andrew.

We'll learn the principles for correctly sterilising your tools between pruning different trees. Andrew will discuss how to maximise the fruiting capacity of your fruit trees. Some of these techniques will literally bear fruit months from now in Spring and Summer.

There will be a FREE Q and A session between the two workshops, available for those who book into one or both workshops.

You'll also have the opportunity to shop from a range of garden tools and equipment on the day, including tools, fertilisers and more, so book in quickly to secure your place! Tickets are limited!

Remember, if you book into both workshops, you save 50% on the second workshop. Tea, coffee and lunch storage facilities will also be available at no extra cost.
