About Flat Soda for Roses: The Rebirth

Flat Soda for Roses: The Rebirth by Ebony Morgan invites the reader on a poetic journey of transformation, resilience, and self-discovery. This debut collection of poetry is a testament to the power of finding strength within oneself, even in the face of adversity. It is a celebration of the human spirit and the capacity to bloom and thrive, even when circumstances seem bleak.

Like a withering flower, we may at times find ourselves buried in the soil of life’s challenges. Yet, within that darkness, lies the potential for rebirth. Just as flat soda can revive a wilting flower, we too can find the remedy to breathe new life into our own existence.

Praise for Flat Soda for Roses: The Rebirth

Ebony Morgan’s poetry is a whirlwind of quintessential Black LA sound. Her voice is the voice of writing that is homegrown, blooming through so many cracks in the sidewalk. Our sidewalk. This book is confirmation that the artwork emerging from Our experience matters, and deserves to grace bookshelves and earlobes. If Crenshaw could write poems, this is what they would sound like.
—Hiram Sims, Community Literature Initiative founder & Los Angeles Library Commissioner

Flat Soda for Roses is an homage to the breathtaking, painstaking, and cathartic journey of rebirth. Ebony Morgan’s collection holds a sweet honey elixir to warmly accompany the road trip down our paths of inner evolution and outer revolution. In these pages are dedications to our layers, an ode to being in constant bloom, and a tribute to the beings that shape Morgan’s poetic perspective. This collection is of many things, a love letter to the butterfly wings that rose and flew beyond the survival stories that bloomed from the concrete, (when there was no other way to g(r)o(w)).

—RAVINA Wadhwani, author of Yellow

Who knew that the little girl riding back and forth on her bike screaming out, “Hey BeJay!” would become such a dynamic balladeer of a poet—life is born by every stroke of her pen, every syllable paints a Picasso in the mind, each sentence strokes the heartstrings, playing a piece that rivals any symphony orchestra.

—From Foreword by Chaney Mack aka Komposure, Poet
