Vaṇakkam! / வணக்கம்!

In collaboration with the MCCSA’s Successful Communities, the Adelaide Tamil Association, the Adelaide Tamil Association's Women's Wing, the Australia Tamil Arts & Culture Development Centre and supported by the City of Adelaide, we bring you our 15th Rotaract Cooking Class! We’ll be learning how to make Chettinadu Fish Curry, Rasam, Millet Idli, Kadambha Sambhar, & Panchamritham!

THE CHEFS:

Nandhini Janarthanan is passionate about food, cooking, and trying different cuisines from around the world. This passion led to Nandhini starting her own catering company and is actively involved within the Tamil community.

Ramya Ramanujam was rarely involved in the kitchen before her marriage, but since tying the knot, she has learned to cater for her husband and son. Ramya believes that food is love and is a pure expression of joy for one's family.

Jegadeeswari Ponnan is a recent migrant to South Australia and has brought her knowledge of Ayurvedic cuisine to our shores. Jegadeeswari is passionate about the healing effects of spices and how certain ingredients positively impact our health.

Indra Linguswamy loves to cook South Indian cuisine and cook traditional dishes using millets.

THE DISHES:

Chettinadu Fish Curry is one of the most popular dishes in Tamil Nadu originating from the Chettinad region. It is spicy, aromatic, and bursting with flavour. For this cooking class, the fish curry will also be served with rasam (tangy Indian soup), millet idli (steamed savoury healthy cakes), kadambha sambhar (South Indian curry with fresh vegetables and lentils), and panchamritham (freshly crushed fruit mixed with honey)
