THAILAND

Sawasdee‎/สวัสดี!

In collaboration with the MCCSA’s Successful Communities, the Thai-Australian Association of South Australia and supported by the City of Adelaide, we bring you our next Rotaract Cooking Class! We’ll be learning how to make Thai beef salad (Yum Nua).

THE CHEF:

Both Tanakorn and Than are chefs and also the owners of Rue De Siam Restaurant. Rue De Siam is a new Thai-French Bar and Restaurant, with a 1950’s theme located on 29-33 Bank St in the heart of Adelaide City. Tanakorn (Father) ran a successful Thai restaurant called ‘Tasty Thai Restaurant’ for over 10 years before the family decided to spice up the style of the establishment and launch ‘Rue De Siam’ with the help of his son Than, and daughter Tira. Tanakorn has been cooking for over 25 years with restaurants in Thailand as well, before moving to Adelaide

THE DISH:

Thai beef salad or Yum Nua is one of the dishes that you can easily find in all Thai restaurants. It is a delightful, colourful dish, and it tastes extraordinary. It is a grilled steak, tossed in a spicy lime dressing. Ideally, the meat is grilled on a charcoal to give it a tasty, smokey flavour but you can also cook the steak on the stove (pan fry) which is easier and more convenient (still holds great flavours). To make the spicy lime dressing, it is very easy. The dressing needs only six ingredients: fresh Thai chili (Birds eye chili), fresh lime juice, garlic, oyster sauce, light soy sauce and pepper. The ingredients that make Thai beef salad so wonderful are the fresh herbs and vegetables. In this recipe, we have mint leaves, coriander, red onions, and cos lettuce. Yum Nua is so fresh, vibrant and light. The meat is tender and juicy, and the other fresh ingredients are crunchy and aromatic. With how healthy this dish is, you can seriously eat it every single day!
