    Event description

Join Rotary Sydney for a private tour of this must-see exhibition, featuring works from the Guggenheim Museum, New York.

Works by this pioneering Russian-born modernist, Wassily Kandinsky are considered some of the great innovators of European abstraction, Vasily Kandinsky (1866–1944) broke new ground in painting during the first decades of the 20th century.

The development of a new subject matter based solely on the artist’s ‘inner necessity’ would occupy him for the rest of his life.

Our guide will explain Kadinsky's proposition of art's potential to " 'stand alone’, with imagery independent of the natural world", as described by Kandinsky in his influential treatise, on the spiritual in art, published in 1911.

You may even discover your own ‘inner necessity’, as Kandinsky puts it. No guarantees but nothing ventured, nothing gained, as some say.

Wassily Kandinsky's work has sold for 37 million pounds, or about US$45 million (A$75M), at Sotheby's in London earlier in 2023.

So please join us to learn about this fascinating person, and have some fun.

Please note: A tour may only contain 30 people so please secure your place early.
