The Mission to Seafarers - Caring for Seafarers Around the World
Attending to seafarers’ welfare is crucial to ensuring the world’s oceans and coastlines are in safe hands.
The Mission to Seafarers is an international mission of the Anglican Church that cares for the practical and spiritual welfare of seafarers of all nationalities and faiths. There are 230 Mission sites around the world. The Mission to Seafarers Victoria (MtSV) dates back to 1857, when it was established in the Port of Melbourne, and now operates as one of 29 port agencies nationally and over 230 port agencies worldwide.
Mission is “To provide on-shore facilities, practical welfare services and spiritual support to seafarers visiting the Port of Melbourne.”
Vision is “To be a pre-eminent maritime centre; responding to the unique circumstances of the seafaring community and an exemplary place of maritime heritage that encourages community, connectivity and social engagement at all levels.”
Philip works predominantly as an interim general manager/ceo now but has had a long management and executive history across 3 states in health, community and family services. He has been on the board of the Mission to Seafarers Victoria for over a year and stepped off this for 6 months while the Mission recruited a new CEO. It takes a wonderfully dedicated staff and crew to offer this practical and enduring service day-after-day, year-in-year-out.
