Event description

Don’t biff it, repair it!

Join us at the Rotorua Repair Café on Saturday 6th April, 10am – 1pm. The Rotorua Repair Café is a free pop-up event for locals to bring in broken or damaged belongings with local volunteer experts doing their best to repair them. Let’s work together to reduce waste to landfill!

What kind of things can I bring to be repaired?
We will be repairing clothing, cordless appliances, laptops/pc, bikes, general (please register your item and if we do not have the capability to fix it we will be in touch)

Where is it?
At the Te Rūnanga Tea House located in the Government Gardens. There are a number of free and paid parking areas within proximity and the venue is just a five-minute walk from the Arawa Street bus stop.

How does it work?

  •  You’ll need to register to attend so we have an idea of what is coming to be fixed. The registration process is very helpful for us to gather sufficient info about your repair requirements, allocate time slots and enables a relatively smooth running of the day.
  •  Following registration, we’ll give you a timeframe on when you can expect to be seen.
  •  Once signed in, you’ll be paired with one of our volunteer repairers who will work with you to identify the issue and potential solution. We can’t guarantee everything you bring in will be able to be fixed - our volunteers will do their best to repair or advise next steps (you may need to purchase or supply parts).

Remember this is a free service to encourage waste reduction and our fix-it experts are volunteering their time and skills to help where they can.

What else will be there?
There will be some light refreshments while you wait, a kid’s tinker table to keep little ones busy and often repair demonstrations.

Is there a cost?
The Rotorua Repair Café is free to attend. There’s an opportunity to koha Repair Café Aotearoa, where donations help keep supporting groups building a culture of repair throughout the country (Find our white donation bucket to share your donation). If your item needs parts, you may be asked to purchase or supply these and re-book for repair.

Do you have some handy skills to share?
We are always looking for repair volunteers and would love to have you on board. Get in touch via the email address below or phone/text Rotorua Lakes Council’s Waste Minimisation Officer, Meghan on 027 206 9551.

This event is sponsored by Envirohub, Rotorua Lakes Council and the Rotorua DIY Shed.
