Special CATHEDRALS Edition of our monthly event, The Round. This collaborative multi-arts show has been going now for 250 months in a row. Celebrate with us as we take the series into "semi retirement" and switch to about once a year for this iconic event. The Round in Seattle has featured 1000's of artists over the years and even popped up on occasion for shows and series in places like Portland, Austin, Anacortes, Vashon, Lebanon PA of all places.

"Mary Lambert is not your typical multi-platinum artist. While studying Music Composition at Cornish College of the Arts, she found a home in the spoken word community of Seattle and began experimenting with infusing poetry into her music, performing frequently as a cellist, singer-songwriter, and poet. Lambert had never released music and was juggling multiple food service jobs when she received a call from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis to collaborate on their marriage equality anthem, “Same Love”. Writing and singing the hook to “Same Love” led to an MTV VMA win and two Grammy nominations: Song of The Year and Album of The Year, and culminated in the iconic 2014 Grammys performance, which featured a mass wedding officiated by Queen Latifah and Lambert’s unforgettable duet with Madonna.

After the viral success of releasing a standalone version of the song, “She Keeps Me Warm” Lambert shortly signed to Capitol Records. She released Welcome to the Age of My Body, an EP with a re-release of the Top 20 hit “She Keeps Me Warm” and “Body Love”, a spoken-word piece about body image. Later that year, she debuted her first pop song: a tongue-in-cheek single, “Secrets,” that went RIAA Gold and shot to No. 1 on the Billboard Dance charts, which was followed by her debut full-length album, Heart on My Sleeve. Lambert received the Human Rights Campaign’s Visibility Award, The SAMHSA Special Recognition Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for her work on destigmatizing mental illness, and was invited to speak at the UN. She has performed on the Colbert Show, Ellen, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Tonight Show, and the American Music Awards. " More on her website...

Molly Sides

"...a born and raised Blaine County (Idaho) artist; dance and movement are in her DNA. While her lure to the arts is genetic, her range of talent manifested in Sun Valley ID. After spending her childhood playing “fairies” in the Sawtooth forests and writing songs with sticks into rocky mountain dirt, Sides owes much of her creative approach to art to her relationship with Sun Valley’s landscape.

“I feel so connected to that place, to the water and the mountains and the plants. Having space to cultivate your inner imagination was huge for me,” Sides says. “A lot of what I do through movement and music is connected to mother nature, to the source, to the elements.”

A true entertainer, Molly Sides brings a distinctive spirit to the stage.

Today, Sides is a Seattle-based Sound, Movement and Film artist, a Pilates teacher and a birthing doula with training as a death and bereavement doula. Despite juggling a breadth of disciplines, Sides intertwines her talents on the stage by sealing them on the foundation of movement. Her presence for new chapters and transitions of life and loss ground the interconnection of her talents, and her curiosity to learn pushes her to new skills. Molly fronts the band Thunderpussy and performs in other projects around the city. "

Kaylee is a musician, holistic film and event producer, and music supervisor based in Seattle, Washington.

Born in the Skagit Valley in the state of Washington, Kaylee’s upbringing in the woods and clear wateres of the Pacific Northwest, combined with her professional background in the music industry (songwriting, producing, performing), have led her to lending those skills to events and film sets around the world. Injecting whole food cooking, astrological and nature-based guidance, and whole body wellness into every production, Kaylee’s holistic approach has revolutionized the energetic frequency on projects including documentary and feature films, music videos and commercial endeavors.

As a musician, Kaylee found her voice, her songs and her passion for playing after an intense car accident in college. Her origin story is more Marvel comic than real life. In the accident, the radio knobs punctured her leg and activated an ancient voice within her, songs that were waiting to come to the surface. Much like Spider Man, bit by the spider, she operates under the mantra that, “with great power, comes great responsibility”. Kaylee considers herself to be a song keeper and takes this role seriously seeing it as a joy and a responsibility. Recognizing the profound healing power of music, her intention in every song and performance is to spill her guts onstage so that the audience can find a piece of their own truth with her. She has shared the stage with The Lumineers, The Head and the Heart, and Damien Jurado. Collaborating with TV on the Radio, Hey Marseilles, Pickwick, Widower, Nick Jaina and many more.

Drew Martin is a songwriter from Maui, Hawaii. His sound is a mix of folk/blues & Hawaiian slack key guitar. Multi-instrumentalist playing 12 string guitar, harmonicas & ukulele. Songs inspired by nature & the places he calls home in the West Maui mountains.

Alex Guy is a Seattle-based violinist, violist, singer, improvisor and composer, and is the leader and principal songwriter of Led To Sea, a magnetic ensemble that fuses classical, pop and experimental music. Her live show as a solo artist has captivated audiences all over the U.S. and Europe, and draws comparisons to St. Vincent and Andrew Byrd. Alex has also composed extensively for dance, film and theater, and has collaborated and toured with many notable bandleaders, composers, improvisers and musicians in the Pacific NW and beyond, including Angel Olsen, Wayne Horvitz, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, Sera Cahoone, Ahamefule Oluo, Mirah, Jherek Bischoff, Lemolo and Laura Veirs.

With 34 years of drumming experience, my rhythmic journey began at the age of 8. Little did I know then, the drums and the words “Let it Happen” written in black sharpie on the snare drum back in 1990 would be one of the most profound teachers, lessons and allies I would experience. Over the years, I’ve performed and recorded with artists such as Damien Jurado, The Maldives, Josiah Johnson, Chain and the Gang, Grizzled Mighty, Shelby Earl, Lydia Ramsey, and Mikey & Matty. While these experiences have been creatively fulfilling, drumming has also become a deeply intuitive practice—one that connects me to myself and the communities I serve.

Matt Gano is author of Suits for the Swarm, a poetry collection from MoonPath Press, co-founder and writing mentor of the Seattle Youth Poet Laureate Program, and the principal bricklayer of Abbey Arts’ NEXT STAGE program. He is also a writer-in-residence for Writers in the Schools and a teaching artist for the Skagit River Poetry Foundation. Matt’s dynamic work has led to recent invitations as a panelist and featured poet for the Skagit River Poetry Festival (2018), instructor for WRITE Doe Bay, and faculty member for the LiTFUSE writer’s conference.

Matt is the voice and lyrical drive behind ENTENDRES a Seattle based hiphop project in collaboration with producer CRSCRL. He represented Seattle at the National Poetry Slam multiple years, is a former Seattle Grand-Slam champion, and has performed poetry across the United States touring nationally renowned venues, including NYC’s famous Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe.

Ebo Barton comes from salt— from the moment before worlds converge. In this world, we are still trying to articulate that mixed Black and Filipino, Transgender and Non-Binary, Queer, Artists and Educators not only matter but are precious. In another world, Barton is loved, safe, and valued. The only difference being that the latter is a path they must make themselves. You may have seen Ebo's work in the book, Black Imagination and heard in the audiobook read by Grammy and Tony award winner, Daveed Diggs. You have also seen Ebo's work online on Write About Now, Button
Poetry, and All Def Poetry channels. In 2016, they placed 5th in the World at Individual World Poetry Slam. In 2017, they co-wrote and co-produced the award-winning play, "Rising Up". In 2018, they played "Invisible One" in Anastacia Renee's "Queer. Mama.Crossroads" and reprised the role in 2019. Ebo debuted his first published collection of poetry, Insubordinate in 2020. In 2021, Insubordinate was named a Washington State Book Award Finalist in the Poetry Category and Black Imagination was named a Washington State Award Finalist in the Creative Non-Fiction Category. As the Director of Housing Services at Lavender Rights Project, Barton's impact transcends artistic endeavors. A leader in arts and activism, Ebo Barton is committed to creating opportunities for others to organize, heal and rejoice. Ebo Barton's written, performative, and community work demand societal reckoning.

Undercurrent is a dance organization dedicated to creating and experimenting with biomechanically sustainable movement practices, experiential design, immersive performances, interdisciplinary collaboration, and care-centered community building. Our work emerges from deep investigations into the joyride of floorwork–practiced with a seamless, fluid, and muscular continuity, and an eye for the thrill of kinesthesia. At our core, we hold the belief that communal care precedes the possibility of risk, and that attunement to collectivism is a vital and precious practice. Founded in 2017, Undercurrent leads weekly classes at Fremont Abbey, public performances throughout the city, and courses at the University of Washington, Cornish College of the Arts, and international dance festivals. Her paintings have been shown throughout the US and the Czech Republic; have appeared on album covers, journals, and books. Most recently, her poetry was published in the Brooklyn-based journal, No, Dear.

Lindsey Schoeneman

Lindsey is a interdisciplinary visual artist whose imagery explores connections between the natural world, ecosystems, and existential themes of human experience and relationships. Interior emotional landscapes serve as poetic metaphors, reflections, and parallels with ecological processes, inviting the viewer into a moment of contemplation and opportunity to feel the interconnectedness of everything. These themes are influenced by her reverence for the natural world and her professional background in the mental health field. She enjoys working with a variety of media including drawing, painting, collage, photography, and more recently integrating fiber arts and printmaking. Her roots are in the PNW and she is currently based in Tacoma, WA.

I found a book of stories I made in second grade. There was nothing in it about wanting to be an artist. I knew by then that it wasn’t really an approved career. I knew you had to be special or extra in some way to be an artist. I knew most artists had a ‘day job.’ I knew an awful lot for a second-grader.

But what 40-odd-year-old me sees is the painstakingly-crayoned field of flowers that makes the front cover of the book of stories.

What I wrote in the story about what I wanted to be when I grew up was, instead, a mom. I wanted to be a mom and have kids, and I planned, very practically, to take good care of my kids.

I did not end up becoming a mother, but I do see that sense of nurture and of caretaking throughout my life. From teambuilding to teaching, to startup companies, taking care of the people around me is always a thread.

Art is not just a thing to sell or a decoration to fill space. Art is a way of taking care, a way of noticing what is precious to me and you, a way of honoring moments and lights, places and feelings. It is a way of being present, which is really the best way I know of to take care of people.

I am a mixed-media artist, working primarily in encaustic, watercolors, and acrylic paints. I play and explore with many other media, including photography, and I usually have a day job or two or three.

Whether I’m teaching workshops, making art, doing research, sketching, bringing envelopes to the post office, it’s that goal of being awake to that moment that drives me.

An open floor concert experience, quiet picnics welcome, no outside alcohol allowed. Seating available including chairs, benches, and some floor space around the stage area.

We recommend bringing cushions and even blankets if you'd like. Audience can sit or lay down anywhere around the stage as space allows (floor space is not reserved).

We are an all ages venue. Kids 10 & under are free at most Abbey Arts events.

Open seating except reserved front rows chairs & benches.
To create a "giant living room" effect we offer an unusual concert experience with informal seating on the floor up front surrounding the stage and lots of pews, benches, and chairs around the space.
We highly recommend you bring blankets and cushions to create a more comfortable experience whether sitting on the floor or seats. Quiet and non-messy snacks/picnics are allowed. No outside alcohol please.
For best sound, arrive early for center floor area and any area on stage not marked with signage. You can also sit all around the back of the stage if you like but sound will be a bit limited there.

QUIET POLICY:

Please refrain from talking or texting during the show
Please silence all devices. Turn off vibrate, rings, etc. If you need your phone on vibrate for specific reasons, please keep it close to you and not on a hard surface that will distract your neighbor.
If arriving late, please be advised that ushers may hold doors during each song due to acoustics of the space.

Please enter quietly if the show has already begun.
