Rounds for Peace: Community Sing with Audrey Smith

About the class:

Rounds for Peace: Community Sing invites singers of all skill levels to join together in song for one night a week on select Wednesdays. The class will focus on finding your voice and experiencing the joy and power of group singing while learning a collection of 2, 3, and 4 part rounds centered on themes of peace, friendship, understanding. We welcome the spectrum of all singers: first-time singers to seasoned vocalists and all in between! The objective is connection and experiencing music for music's sake. Songs will be taught aurally, but written notation will be provided to take home to share with others you might sing with!

About the facilitator:

A native of the North Carolina Piedmont, Audrey Smith is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and composer working in distinct but related musical worlds.

Notably, Audrey has performed at the piano as a leader and side person at the New Orleans Jazz Museum, New Orleans Jazz National Historical Parks, the Baton Rouge Blues Festival, the Marigny Opera House, with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and other small venues across the southeast. Her music and repertoire selection are influenced by the desire to keep inching the works of female and non-binary artists to the forefront, with a current focus on reviving the compositions of Marian McPartland, as well as lesser-known compositions and arrangements for the piano trio by Mary Lou Williams.
