    Event description

Join us for the exclusive Roy Estate wine tasting - an experience of a lifetime and another level of wine appreciation! Presented by special guest Patrick Seymour, Certified Sommelier

The wines of Roy Estate in Napa Valley are extremely limited production with only two wines being released per year, coming from two very distinct sites - akin to the Right Bank and Left Bank in Bordeaux. These wines are handcrafted by one of the world's most respected winemakers, Philippe Melka, who began his career many years ago at Haut Brion.

On this special occasion, we will have the pleasure of tasting and savoring 5 of these exquisite wines!

    WINES:

Roy Estate Mr. Evans Proprietary Red 2018

    Roy Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Roy Estate Mr. Evans Proprietary Red 2015

    ABOUT ROY ESTATE

Roy Estate produces world-class, estate grown wines from the cooler, southern end of Napa Valley, nestled in the foothills of the Vaca Mountains. Situated in its own unique and remote valley, Roy Estate possesses one of Napa’s great, off-the-beaten path vineyard sites with a commanding position looking out to the San Francisco Bay in the distance. This privileged setting and a singular microclimate, when combined with the substantial talents of winemaker Philippe Melka, yield layered and profound wines that nod to Bordeaux while
showing all the rich fruit and power that are the mark of Napa Valley’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon. With total annual production below 1,500 cases, the wines from Roy Estate are highly allocated and inevitably sell out each vintage. As one of Napa Valley’s top, yet still relatively undiscovered, producers, we are eager to share the Roy Estate Grands Crus with you.

    ABOUT PHILIPPE MELKA - WINEMAKER

    Philippe Melka
    Philippe Melka

Philippe Melka began working at Roy Estate in April 2005.  He is one of the world’s most respected winemakers, who is best known for "finding the voice of the vineyard through its terroir," as Philippe puts it.   He began his career working at wineries in France (Château Haut-Brion and Château Petrus), Italy (Badia a Coltibuono), Australia (Chittering Estate) and California (Dominus and Ridge) before settling in the Napa Valley in the '90s. In the wine industry, many credit Philippe Melka with a return to a focus on terroir. Melka’s style is a blend of his French influence with techniques such as gentle harvesting, extended skin contact, use of new oak and his ‘American’ insights about artisanal farming as well as winemaking.

    ABOUT PATRICK SEYMOUR

    Patrick Seymour
    Patrick Seymour

Patrick begun his winemaking career in 2000 while working for the Robert Mondavi Family of Wines when he was hired as Assistant General Manager and Assistant Winemaker under owner “Byron” Ken Brown at Byron Vineyards on the central coast of California. Patrick was fortunate to have worked under the tutelage of Tim Mondavi and Geneviève Janssen of Opus One. Patrick said this was a “Dream Come True”. Prior to joining Roy Estate in August of 2021 - John Boich, majority owner of Boich Family Cellar, a Napa Valley Luxury Wine Brand, contracted with Patrick to become their Senior Brand Manager on a consulting basis. Before consulting for Boich Family Cellar, in 2012 the Trione Family of Sonoma County, hired and appointed Patrick Seymour as National Sales Manager for the family’s newly launched wine brand. Shortly after the hire, Patrick begun assisting the winemaking team with production of several wines under the supervision of head winemaker Scot Covington. Reflecting on his 20 + years within the wine industry, Patrick says, “It is an honor to work with such iconic wine-producing families that bring their decades of hard work and have the ability to share it with the industry, community and wine lovers alike.”

    ABOUT THE VINEYARD

Roy Estate Vineyard in Napa Valley
Roy Estate Vineyard in Napa Valley

Their scenic 17-acre vineyard, a unique property blessed by its geography, topography, and terroir is situated immediately south of the renowned Stags Leap District at the cooler southern end of the Napa Valley. The gentle slopes are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. A creek divides the parcel roughly in half, producing two noticeably distinct sites.

On one side, classic volcanic soil produces smaller, low-yielding vines that generate wines with powerful tannins. The soil on the other side is more loamy and deep, supporting bigger and stronger vines that give more generous, profound, layered wines. The cooler conditions give their wines a more European-style tannic structure with a clear focus on the purity of the fruit. Summer fog often clings until mid-morning, moderating the sun’s intensity, preserving acidity and yielding wines with softer, fresher nuances.
