Royal Robotics Polly Robot Workshop
Event description
Event Overview:
An all-new robotics kit is in town and it's your chance to give it a shot! These Spring holidays, we are partnering with BugBox and their Polly robots for a brand new exclusive robotics education experience. Polly is built from a combination of an Arduino Uno and 3D printed parts to create a fun and customisable robot for all ages! We encourage you to join Oscar in learning valuable and real robotics skills that can be brought to the real world. Beginning with the basic construction of the robot, you will have the opportunity to wire up Polly's components in a simple and easy-to-understand fashion, learning valuable lessons in electrical engineering! After constructing Polly, you will learn to program it in a series of challenges to push your programming and problem skills!
Polly is designed to be available to a wide range of skill sets to ensure you will have the best time. On top of that, all these skills will be taught by a world-renowned, international award-winning student as your very own personal educator!
Workshop Times:
These workshops are all located at the Peregian Digital Hub during the second week of the public school holidays:
Wednesday: 28/09/2022 - 1:30pm-5:00pm
Thursday: 29/09/2022 - 1:30pm-5:00pm
Course Outline:
- Those participating in our workshop will be taught basic building, electronic, and programming skills for the BugBox Polly robot all to complete fun challenges!
- We will learn how to problem solve and work with each other to achieve the best outcome for you and your small group.
- Together, we will learn, have fun, make friends, and have a good time!
Student's Parents must supply:
- Snacks/lunch and water bottles for the sessions and competition.
- Their own laptop or device to program with (if this isn't an option, a laptop will be provided). The software is online based, so no programs need to be downloaded!
- Travel to and from the workshops (we recommend arriving 5mins prior to the beginning of a workshop).
Prior-knowledge Requirements:
This course is designed to be very welcoming to all ability levels, ranging from young students who have never done robotics before to students with significant experience! Students new to robotics will receive additional help from Oscar, as well as help from their other group members, ensuring they have the best time and learn something too! Students who may feel under-challenged and excel at robotics may find themselves pushing through harder and harder challenges throughout the course with plenty of wise tips and tricks from Oscar.
Students will have to plug in and modify wires on a breadboard, which can be somewhat delicate and requires some concentration. If you have any inquiries about your student's suitability for the course, please contact Oscar via email for more information.
