Ruapuke Beach Clean

Registration for Shuttle and/or lunch purposes only, this is a FREE event.
Join us for a fun morning at Ruapuke beach! Return transport, coffee and lunch provided!.
The Ruapuke coastline is unfortunately a collection point for human made debris, and the ocean currents shift the rubbish to particular spots where they break down into tiny fragments after exposure to the elements.
WEC (Whāingaroa Environment Centre), in collaboration with Raglan Shuttle, Coastcare Waikato, Morning Glory Coffee, Top Cut Butchery, Raglan Lions Club and Community Waikato invite you, our community, to join us in a beach clean at Ruapuke.
Visitors to town are welcome. Also joining us are the Ruapuke Coastcare Group who have been restoring and protecting Ruapuke’s coastline for over 15 years.
During this beach clean we will be using sifters to separate as much of the small fragmented plastic from the sand as possible, we will be collecting larger pieces along the beach and also collecting data on what we are finding as we go.
Collecting data about what trash we are collecting influences decisions about our public spaces, drinking water, and environment.
Think of the beach as a bridge between the land and marine environment. It’s a critical biodiversity area. Cleaning our beaches is a step towards cleaning our oceans.
Bring the whole family and your friends to appreciate this beautiful and spacious beach while contributing to taking care of it. We will supply you with a caffeinated start to the adventure, return transport and a BBQ lunch to finish.
Pre-event registrations are necessary in order for us to ensure you a seat on the Shuttle as it is limited to x24 people and the amount of food required for lunch (vegetarian/vegan included).
*If you don’t require transport from Raglan, you will find us at the Ruapuke South carpark at 9:30am.
07:00 - 08:45 Coffee at Indi's Cafe on the corner of Wi Neera & Bow Streets. Use your ticket to order.
09:00 Depart Raglan - Shuttle bus departs from the Raglan Library at 9am
09:30 Arrive at Ruapuke South car park followed by a Health & Safety briefing and instructions
09:45 Walk to the point that been designated as a collection point for debris
12:45 Return to the Souther car park (North car park has been washed away)
13:00 BBQ lunch
13:30 Depart Ruapuke Southern car park
14:00 Return to Raglan town
Please bring: Your own filled reusable drink bottle, Sun protection including a hat and sunblock, Snacks if needed, Gloves if you have them
