A Day in Conversation – Refugees and Hope
OVERVIEW: Rural Australians for Refugees Indi is holding its 3 year strategic planning forum on Saturday 16 August 2025 from 9.30 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Uniting Church Hall, Rowan Street in Wangaratta. The purpose is to find out about the current situation for refugees in Australia and to plan responses that RAR can provide in North East Victoria.
GUEST SPEAKERS: Gillian Triggs AC & past Australian Human Rights Commissioner, will speak on “Refugees Global to Local”. Dr Helen Haines MP will focus on “Working in partnership with local politicians”. A panel discussion with refugees and supporters will explore their lived experience, the challenges and the positives.
WORKSHOPS: Three discussion groups will address the following issues and plan for follow-up action for the Indi Region:
Advocacy – “Global to Local” – practical responses and strategies
Political awareness and refugee support action strategies – learnings from Helen Haines presentation
Local resource identification – engaging local businesses and key support services for supporting refugee settlement
PARTICIPANTS:
Morning and afternoon tea and lunch will be provided at $25 per head. Ticket registration is required by Friday 8th August (for catering purposes).
