Russel W, Tropical Strength and Casuarina Light Phenomenon
Event description
Russell W is a composer, producer and songwriter from Austinmer.
Alongside his solo output he is involved in a variety of projects including
Shining Bird, Tropical Strength, The M1 and Ernest Ellis.
Using a selection of analogue synths, acoustic instruments and
manipulated samples, Russell creates immersive sound environments that
often evokes the landscape in which he lives and works on the South
coast of NSW."
Tropical Strength are an Art Rock outfit from up and down the South Coast of NSW. Brothers Alastair and Russell Webster front the band, which fluctuates between two and eight members, making sound collages and experimental #1 hits haunted by the past, the present and the inner psyche.
Memories, confessions, and fleeting revelations are all woven together into their songs; the effect is something of a warped house of mirrors, each revealing fragments of the brothers inner worlds and the characters who live there. On their new record, Tropical Strength sought to capture the unique and spontaneous dynamic of the live band, which has been playing together in various incarnations since Zutti was released.
The newest release is a mammoth 8 minute poem called Ode To Nowra, spoken over a sprawling atmospheric sonic landscape of layers by the live band. The song includes harp, violin, guitar, piano, drums, slide guitar and angelic harmonies by the Angels.
CLP is here to lift your spirits with soulful female-led vocals in three-part harmonies and a mighty lineup of local musicians each bringing a unique flavour to the stage to create something… well, phenomenal! The perfect mix of groove and glow, it’s music to move to and to melt to. From funk to blues, soul to R&B, Earth to outer space. Come and experience the Casuarina Light Phenomenon via osmosis.
