Prescribed Fire Training for Wisconsin Landowners
Event description
Join us for a new opportunity to learn about prescribed fire techniques and strategies at the Southern Wisconsin
Bird Alliance's Goose Pond Sanctuary. This entry-level training course will cover
fire ecology, planning, and implementation through a mixture of classroom and field instruction, giving
Wisconsin landowners the ability to safely participate in prescribed burns of low-to-moderate complexity*.
Training will occur on September 28 and 29 from 8am to 5pm, with a rain date of October 12-13. Personal Protective Equipment, fire tools, coffee, and lunch will be provided. Trainees must bring a water bottle and dress in fire-appropriate clothing, including leather boots (at least 6" tall), leather gloves, and long-sleeved pants and shirts made with all-natural fibers (e.g. cotton; no polyester or nylon). Trainees must also be in good health and willing to sign a liability waiver after registration.
*Note: significant further experience is necessary before participants are prepared to conduct burns on their own.
