ABOUT THE EVENT
Banjo wielding Canadian artist Ryland Moranz is coming out to Australia for his first tour down under supported by Folk-Soul Aus/Fijian singer-songwriter Andrea Kirwin. A hit with both his originals and between song banter, Ryland will knock your socks off with his Banjo claw hammer style and story telling lyrics.
“I’ve seen for miles before my time / Years before I was born, and years after I’ll die”
If you look carefully enough, via clues like this lyric from Run Rabbit Run, the underlying thread running through the rustic alt. country and poignant folk songs of RYLAND MORANZ will reveal itself as the passage of time.
“I feel less like a writer of fiction and more like a collector of sorts. It’s a romantic notion, but I like the idea of being a hopeful observer of the world and the people in it. I think in a roundabout way that’s what the new record is about, and kind of why I called it ‘XO, 1945’ – kind regards from a past that’s different than you remember.”
A seasoned performer having toured and released music under his own name and other Nashville favourites including playing for Leeroy Stagger, Ryland will be performing one Brisbane show only at It's Still a Secret on Thursday 12 October. Tickets are $25 full admission and $15 concession. Ryland has been brought out to Australia independently by Peace Run Records and agency and we encourage you to get along to what will be a memorable gig featuring Ryland who hails for Alberta, Canada. You can stream Ryland's latest album, Xo, 1945, which was nominated for the Canada Folk Music awards for best album in 2021. For lovers of Americana, old timey songs, hilarious wit and stories from the road, don't miss this chance to see Ryland perform as he makes his way round SE QLD, Northern Rivers NSW and down to the Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass festival. Be sure to tell your folks and we will see you there!
For those that may not have seen Andrea perform before, she writes originals that fuse folk/soul/jazz/rnb and blues effortlessly and plays guitar, cigar box guitar, stomp, harmonica and has a voice that was trained from years singing in Church. Being the daughter of a Fijian church minister taught Andrea to perform wholeheartedly and lift others up through her music. Her latest album Bloom was nominated as a finalist for QLD music awards in the Folk and Soul categories. Every gig is soul stirring and life affirming. Get there early to grab a good seat for this special show featuring world class singer/songwriters from opposite sides of the world.
