Strange Company invites you all to come down and hang out barside with us and the lovely Sam Blackwell for our Bi-Weekly tasting event, this time showcasing Ngeringa from South Australia.

Ngeringa is a certified biodynamic vineyard and winery specialising in classic, fine wines that are full of vitality and born of tradition.

Their vineyards are located in the beautiful Adelaide Hills of SA, a region reputed for producing some of Australia’s most elegant, cool climate wines.

Winemaker, Erinn Klein and co-founder, Janet Klein create Ngeringa wines, plus oil and vegetables right there on their farm which they have nurtured with great care. Originally part of the world-renowned Jurlique herb farm, their land has been certified biodynamic for more than 20 years, making Ngeringa one of Australia’s original biodynamic winegrowing pioneers.

“We allow the soil, the site, the season and the variety to express itself in our wines.”

Ngeringa are passionate about ecological, biodynamic wine growing and everything they do and have created, revolves around this belief.  From small, closely planted vines, a simple straw bale winery, a farm – entwined with the vineyard – of Scottish Highland cows, sheep and chickens, plus an abundant paddock of veggies with extensive revegetation plantings.

Working with the cycles and rhythms of nature allows the soil, the site and the season to be expressed in each individual wine.

Being biodynamic also means their vines and farm are pesticide and chemical free. Eight biodynamic preparations are made by hand, as well as special soil and foliar brews – rich with seaweed, fish, equisetum/casuarina, stinging nettle, chamomile or yarrow. These preparations are essential immunity boosts to the vines at times of stress or fungal pressure.

Large volumes of biodynamic compost are also made and applied to the soil annually. Milk whey is their standard replacement for the majority of sulphur sprays and they aim to apply a cow-manure based paste to pruning wounds in winter. Full circle, that's what we call closed loop winemaking at its finest!

The farm works in harmony with their beautiful vineyards. Their careful animal husbandry (pairing of animals and land) is simple yet mindful, with each herd being moved between pastures every 10 days to reduce disease pressure. Homeopathic and herbal preparations are given when needed.

The end result is a product that is absolutely bursting with vitality, depth of flavour and delicacy, these wines openly express the care with which they were made. Each one reflects its place of origin, the terroir of Ngeringa's soil (Ngeringa meaning 'whispering Sheoak' in Peramangk, the local dialect of Mt Barker) these wines breathe authenticity and integrity. To be enjoyed and savoured.

A delicious selection of snacks will be prepared by our team of kitchen all-stars which will compliment the tasting.

Food may or may not be biodynamic also...
