Koro, meaning “choir” in Tagalog, is a new, inventive seven-piece ensemble led by bassist, composer, and vocalist Sabine Tapia. Showcasing rich harmonic language and patiently shaped song forms, Koro features some of Sydney’s most exciting young musicians and improvisers, including Arlo Sim (vocals), Elise Nolte (vocals), Samantha Baxendale (vocals), Harley Coleman (guitar), Thomas Odell (piano), and Matt Simmonds (drums). Through Koro explores the textural possibilities of multiple voices at the forefront of the ensemble’s sound. From this emerges a carefully balanced blend of contemporary jazz, folk, and ambient music, creating a sonic world of striking emotional depth.
