    Event description

The collective photographic exhibition "Sacred Landscapes" was conceived to be presented within the “Vatican Chapels” in Venice, exploring the connection between Divinity and Nature, crucial for the perception of the world and its profound beauty. Photographers interpret the theme in various ways, from recognizable locations to abstract suggestions, reflecting on the evolution of photography from mere documentation to a more reflective and questioning art form. The exhibition explores the emerging new languages in photography, blending the created and the creator in a secular confrontation between art and spirituality.

Inaugurated in 2018 on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice by the Giorgio Cini Foundation, the "Vatican Chapels" constitute the first Pavilion of the Holy See at the Venice Architecture Biennale. With an area that hosts 10 chapels designed by as many international architects, the project creates a suspended space between water, sky, and earth, perfect for reflection and spiritual experience, in consonance with the Institution’s history and mission. This project is an integral part of the Foundation's commitment to promoting comparative dialogue on religions and spiritual traditions.

The exhibition presents works from a selection of twenty artists listed below: Dimitri Angelini, Nilowfer Awan, Tommaso Barazzutti, Federico Calogero, Guglielmo Cherchi, Alessandra Chemollo, Alessandro Dandini de Sylva, Marco Delogu, Federica Falcone, Mohamed Keita, Allegra Martin, Luca Nostri, Annie Ratti, Gaia Renis, Dione Roach, Flavio Scollo, Paolo Ventura, and Francesca Woodman. Some of the images exhibited have been created specifically for this exhibition; others have been chosen by the authors for the exhibition.
